Who's going to be this summers promised 'Marquee Signing'......
,,,only to fall through and not be completed after ST renewal deadline?

I can see Sullivan mentioning Rooney in quite a few interviews between now and then.

It's the boards fault for not regularly signing the sort of calibre of player that Bilic or any other manager would refuse.

Once Tony Henry is involved you know it's in the hope of bargain coming good.

Quite interesting how you have interpreted that.

I believe its something more like this

Bilic says: i want lacazette
Sully says: do you think we can get him on a loan with an option to buy?
Billic says: no
Sully says: ok, henry do you know any free transfers available that you recommend?
Henry: no, but how about calleri? Can probably get him on a loan deal?
Bilic says: i want lacazette
Sully: we cant get lacazette, too expensive
Bilic: ok how about batman
Sully: cant get him because our low offers werent accepted and now he's going to chelsea
Bilic: ok, how about bacca?
Sully: we cant afford his wage demands (i can but im not investing my own money in the club)
Henry: what about calleri?
Bilic: we need someone i suppose
Sully: i got the calleri deal, loan with an option to buy, great job henry

Calleri plays shit
Sully says: the manager makes the decision (even tho he had no real options)
Willtell says: what a shit choice slaven made there

David Sullivan on the OS yesterday

“I cannot speak about specific players but we have a policy at West Ham where myself, my head of recruitment Tony Henry and the manager sit down and discuss things and in a perfect world we would all agree before we sign everybody, and we don’t break that rule often. You can’t bring in players the manager doesn’t fancy, particularly in January."

Why do you shift the blame onto the manager all of a sudden? You think the board has stars coming out of their arses or summit?

Please give me some proof they are ALL bilic's signings please

Do me a favour, mate. I mean, I'm all for people airing their concerns but its like a fucking gay and bi Trump rally on here.

Oh what grasshopper?

The manager decides who we need so are you blaming the board for Bilic's signings?

Re: Who's going to be this summers promised 'Marquee Signing'......
Quite right willtell, lets measure on the quality and potential of the players recruited and sold

Recruited
Zaza, nordveit, tore, ayew, calleri, snodgrass....

Sold
Payet....
.......
....... oh :(

Re: Who's going to be this summers promised 'Marquee Signing'......
In case you lot haven't noticed, the owners and Bilic have stopped making transfer announcements.

When we are linked with players the stories come out of agents or media guesswork and not the club. You cannot measure the success of WH by the amount spent on transfers.

Marquee and Iconic are two words i could happily never see again associated with West Ham, both mean fuck all and just lead to disappointment.

Re: Who's going to be this summers promised 'Marquee Signing'......
I've started to ignore the comments and press releases from the board, until they sell the club just get used to the fact we are competing to survive relegation or if we are lucky, 7-10th place against the likes of west brom and stoke.

We are still a selling club

Joe Hart?

Why?

He's a good keeper, certainly better than his replacement at City.

But so are the two we already have. Certainly good enough that replacing them by Joe Hart can't be any sort of priority.

And if we did, I guarantee that when he made his first mistake, people would be calling for him to be dropped and replaced by whichever of Randy or Adrian is at the front of the queue/still at the club.

Stoneman- I agree. Transfer window is shut, so let's just get behind the players we have until the end of the season. Who I think are more than capable of getting us a top 10 finish assuming no injury crisis.

El Scorchio 5:23 Wed Feb 1
Re: Who's going to be this summers promised 'Marquee Signing'......
That's true- it's always nice to have a player as a figurehead. Was working brilliantly for us last season with Payet, and I expect he bought in a lot of extra revenue.

Beckham for Real Madrid is the best example (I think Trevor B mentioned that one)

Boring.

Stuck records you lot.

Let's just get on with enjoying the rest of the season.

Couldn't agree more with that analysis.

The issue, as others have said, is the effect that a marquee signing has on things like marketing and merchandising. A very shrewd set of transfers that are a brilliant improvement to the squad still might not catch the imagination of punters, and the aim of course is to fill the stadium and sell shirts. That's the only case I can really make for a 'marquee signing' - I don't think there's any other rational footballing case for buying any player at £30m+.

FC - We actually got him 1st time around from St Mirren, but yes, I would infer it is a lower league!!

Re: Who's going to be this summers promised 'Marquee Signing'......
I'm inclined to agree that buying big names from big teams isn't always the way. Who are our biggest transfer successes of recent years?

Antonio and Cresswell, I reckon.

Both from the Championship, combined cost of less than ten million quid.

Sakho was plucked from relative obscurity as well.

A player doesn't have to be expensive in order to be the right player for the club.

I'm not sure McAvennie was plucked from the lower leagues unless you're inferring Celtic from the Scottish first division as it was known then, is a lower league?

I'm sure we'd all prefer that NJ, but you can't just decide to do it. In fact, that article highlights several failed attempts at that.
